These five recovered recently from a corner in a church attic on the way to the pipes of an organ installed in the late 1970's, in a bucket along with assorted screws and bits of extra hardware strongly suggesting they were (all) left behind by those that installed that organ there then. After dislodging the numerous cigarette butts also found (quite thoroughly dried out) inside each one away with a long stick, they were simply rinsed out and off, thus a certain amount of crud remains in the bottom of each.
They all appear identical at a glance but each is actually unique, mostly because the bottoms of each bottle label them as being from New York NY, New Orleans LA, Baton Rouge LA, Hendersonville NC, and Brookhaven MISS. There are also slight differences amongst the painted on labeling, and some have extra letters, symbols, or codes either on their bottoms or near the bottom of their sides. Unfortunately the remaining crud inside the bottles makes it somewhat difficult to see/read all those various bottle maker's markings in the pics, but since I'm not specifically a Coca-Cola collector they'll probably end up somewhere outside displayed with other odd bottles anyway so I'm not too concerned about that -- if anybody *does* want to know anything specific about any one, just leave a comment and I'll try to clarify! :-) :-) ;-)
Your profession certainly gets you off the beaten path and into to nooks and crannies to find interesting things,
I don’t know if this was just a local thing or if people all over the country engaged in this little contest: Whenever a group of people finished drinking their Cokes, they would turn the bottle over and announce the name of the city and state the bottle came from. The “winner” would be the person with the bottle from the most distant city.
That little game is a thing of the past >sigh<.
Yes Watchsearcher, I suppose you're correct with that, at least as far as nooks and crannies in churches -- and people *do* tend to stick (then mostly forget about) all *kinds* of cool stuff in those places?! The general thing amongst all that I truly wish I could 'disappear' more often is various sorts of disused stained glass panels (or parts thereof) and fancy woodwork things, but those are often either too large or too damaged, or suddenly 'remembered' again if I mention them to somebody (which I would always do before 'helping myself') which tends to leave them in the "left there, still" category instead. More than once when such things can't 'go away', I'll still rearrange them a bit even in their continued state of neglect just to protect/preserve them a little more, for whoever whenever *will* perhaps be able to rescue them from their oblivion someday. (and once or twice anyway, that person ultimately *did* end up being me...the people in charge around churches *do* change with some regularity after all, thus their opinions of all that 'junk in the attic' may change as well...?? ;-) :-) :-)
Nice Cola bottles ,last time I was on the beaten path ,I really took a beating
I was lucky to get out of there with all my organs in tact
/me <smiling> at Vynil's comment -- thanks so much, and ain't it a WHOLE LOT MO-FUNNERER on that "other" path . . . ??? :-) :-) :-)
THANK YOUs, as well, to Newfld, Watchsearcher, jscott0363, Brunswick, fortapache, Vynil33rpm, vetraio50, and Daddy_Nobucks for stopping by and leaving your <love it>s for my little bunch of bottles!
