Hi, I was wondering if anyone would know what this bag was used for. It is stitched leather and it looks like there may have been a strap attached at some time. The four little compartments at the front are the size of a pen. Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Military map case is a good possibility.
I would expect markings if military.
They are usually marked, but not always. look inside the flap for markings.
