    I was given this sword as a wedding present by a historian friend - he said it was something we should value - sadly i never found out why!!!
    can anyone help??

      looks kinda civil war to me.

      I see no resemblance to any designs from around the Civil War. Has a French or Spanish look to me. Probably an artillery model. No markings ? Doesn't appear to have a fuller, so not a higher grade.

      Naval cutlass perhaps. I agree with bb2 on the lack of a fuller. That would be what people incorrectly call a blood groove.
