CW friend Thomas/Brunswick showed us his kittycat Tom Tom a couple weeks ago and got me remembering my Champagne kitty, may he rest forever in furball heaven. All I have of him now is memories and photos, one of which is my background here along with a 'new' silver ring.
Champagne first came into my life as a kitten, along with a partner way back when...that partner eventually got put out, but the kittycat stayed. ;-) He then got uprooted and moved here with me (only barely tolerating the crate in the passenger seat for the journey, mostly under a towel) where he lived out the rest of his time on Planet Earth in two different comfortable homes, well fed and dearly loved. In this photograph, he's curled up on the end of the bed in the first bedroom I ever had here, it'd be at least 25 yrs ago now.
The ring is the first thing found in (yes, yet one more) another boxful of mostly costume jewelry recently. An interesting random-appearing design of silver 'blobs' melding together to form a band, it *is* actually stamped 925 at one spot on its outside but I don't think I managed to capture that spot in the pics here -- it is terribly difficult to see amongst the rest of the pattern, and in fact I had to actually go buy a little magnifying loupe (which I needed anyway) to confirm it. If there is also a maker's signature mark, I haven't found (or recognized) that yet. It was uniformly dull gray tarnished when found, I have just once taken silver polish and a toothbrush to it to get to where it looks here. It weighs 5.5g.
As pic 4 shows, it fits my pinkie finger nicely and I've mostly been wearing it since I found it, because I like the way it looks with my other silver 'daily rings'. I've discovered that, with its erratic outer edges, IT likes to hold a certain position or two on the finger, tending to orient itself that way while being worn...kinda cool how it does that...?! ;-) :-) :-)
A nice story about Champagne. Cats are cool. The ring looks like it may have been made by lost wax casting. What do you think?
