This is a nice cast aluminum piece that dates from WW2. Just purchased this past weekend at a "Civil War" Show!

It is well made and very well detailed. The "spinning" props really show some age. They are tooled out of aircraft plexiglass and held in place with a/c rivets.

The body of the plane and the ashtray stand are of cast aluminum. Most likely cast from aircraft pieces but nothing that can be definitively identified.

Initially, I considered this a souvenir piece and not necessarily trench art. However, considering the era and war shortages of the materials used in construction; I am confident that this is a trench art piece.

Thanks to bhifos for help with the plane ID.

My photos of my object, do not copy or post without permission.

      scottvez, Cool. :-)

Yes, a new(er) generation of trench art. Industry was scrambling to retool after WWII.

Very cool and well made. Nice pick! The U.S. really did some heavy bombing back then! Except for the props, it's very reminiscent of the B-52. Thanks for sharing Scott.

Not sure how I missed this post. The fun part of trench art to me is that it takes on many forms and you never know what to expect. Thanks for sharing scott

Pretty neat sold this year in April on eBay for $119.

Nope— bought it last year and it has been sitting in my house ever since!

A SIMILAR one might have sold on eBay recently.
