Hi, I know nothing about dolls, this is the first one I've ever bought and I'm 59 years old. I saw her at a garage sale, and her eyes just drew me in. I had to take her home! There is no writing on her anywhere, just her beautiful face and lovely eyes. Has anyone seen this type of doll before? Her face reminds me of one that I just saw that was posted about a year ago that someone was trying to find info on, but just the head.
    Thanks!

She is a modern porcelain, and produced for collectors, not playthings. Without a mark it would be impossible to say who made it as there are thousands of them out there, made by just as many companies. She is very pretty

      Vestas,

That doll looks similar to doll heads made by Ann Gamwell in Fryeburg, Maine, I think. She was a craftsy person who made about 200 heads from mold to painting over many years. The eyes on your doll do not have her touch. Oddly, the story goes that she sold her heads very selectively. Unusual one would be at a yard sale.

Never heard of her. Couldn't find her on google or ebay. Not really sure what your point is

      Vesta,

I was responding to Merrilymreid above. I offered a lead as to a possible source for her doll. I don't know the woman either. Did see a couple of her dolls in Maine years ago and they were distinctive and memorable. I was offering a lead to Merrily. That is all.

Sorry you addressed me that is why I asked. No matter who made it, it is a modern doll. When she says someone was trying to identify a head that nearly always means a bisque doll, not a modern porcelain.

This is why I'm very careful when dealing with answers with these dolls. People are always more apt to believe they are older than what they are, rather than believe they have a mass produced newer doll. There are many out there that can and do take advantage of those who do not know the difference.
