This porcelain bowl is 4.5" in diameter x 2.25" high. It is marked on the bottom "NO 1" in a crown topped wreath with "Royal Porcelain 24 k Gold" under that. It is so thin that I can see the shadow of my hand moving through it.
It was a $.50 thrift shop find today. I was really excited when I found it because I thought it was a Noritake rice bowl. After looking through all of the marks used by Noritake, though, I finally realized that it is not Noritake, not a rice bowl and probably not even Japanese. Sigh.
Does anyone know who made this bowl and what its purpose is?
It looks Japanese to me Kevin, particularly the design of the back stamp.
Just a feeling though, and you know how unreliable they can be.
50c! Beautiful bargain.
We are fully locked down at present and I am really missing op shopping :(
Thanks for your comments, Karen! Yeah, sure looked Japanese to me when I first saw it. I guess it still does! We are probably headed back to some form of lock down here, too. I hope we don't get any scarier mutations!
