I found a couple of ivory handled jacknives the other day. This one says 'Made in USA' and 'Colonial... U.S.A.' on it. Maybe this is bone and not ivory. I wonder how i might tell the difference.

The stuff I read says ivory will scorch if held to fire (a hot pin on it). Ivory has a cross hatch pattern when polished. Ivory fluoresces bright white under black light. There is an article on http://www.wikihow about how to tell if it is ivory, bone or man-made. Happy searching!!
