    Absolutgat…
    (1 item)

This was something I inherited from my grandparents. It's been packed in a custom moving crate for 20 years. It's not my taste but I don't know what to do with it. I'm looking for suggestions. Thanks.

I suggest you display it and learn to love it just because your grandparents must have loved it….
      >smiling<. I can say that because I am a grandmother and my grandkids had better love everything I’m passing to them someday (and not just the money!!)

Hi. Welcome to Collectors Weekly, Clocks. I believe that the style of your heirloom clock is called a "Column and Splat" Shelf or Mantel Mirror Clock.
You may find similar examples on the Inter-web identifying this model as an "Ogee" but that's incorrect. You can look up those keywords and see for yourself.

It looks like someone fixed a substantial hook on the back of the case to enable the owner to securely hang this clock on a wall. It's pretty tall and weight driven (? it may be spring driven...I would need to see more of what goes on behind that wonderful dial/face), so it's probably not too stable sitting on a shelf, desk or mantel somewhere. Hanging it on a wall is a good way to go just so long as you have a good strong hook fastened into a stud. The dates on the back of the dial are likely dates of servicing. Like all machines with many moving parts, mechanical clocks require periodic maintenance and repair. Your clock has been around for quite some time so it is obviously well made and most importantly it has been well cared for by your direct ancestors.

There is an excellent write-up on Pratt right here on Collectors Weekly. You may wish to print it off or save it in file somewhere: https://www.collectorsweekly.com/articles/daniel-pratt-neglected-clockmaker-of-reading-massachusetts/

As far as current market value is concerned, see this eBay link of recent sold listings: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&LH_Sold=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=15&_stpos=17331&_dmd=1&_ipg=50&LH_Complete=1&_fosrp=1&_nkw=pratt+clock&_sop=3

I hope that helps some and solves your mystery. If so, please consider marking your post as "Mystery Solved".

Thanks for sharing your family heirloom with us and, once again, welcome!
