I'm no photography expert, but I have say that the photos you took are wonderful: the lighting & etc. captures everything about the sculpture!

I could have sworn this was an artic Fox! To me he’s got the perfect little foxy face and his color is right for an artic Fox but I guess I DO actually see the raccoon look in his shape- they tend to be compact little creatures after all! His frosted glass look is lovely!

looks more like a fox to me too, unfortunately this figurine isn't shown on The Viking Art Glass site with their collection of satin glass figurines; but a raccoon is shown and doesn't match this figurine, tho' not sure if they may have marketed multiple raccoon figures, as I find this listed online as both a fox and raccoon...

So doesn't look like a raccoon to me, but what do I know. Maybe a label mix up.

Thank you vintagelamp for your terrific comment, I'm so glad this reminded you of your pet raccoons & loved the story! They are really cute looking animals, love their B&W coloring & striped tail (alot like the lemur, one of my fave wild animals), but where I live they are usually evening foragers so people don't tame them as much

Lol Karen, perhaps I am too, as there seems to be a controversy about this piece, which is most commonly labeled raccoon but also fox (maybe arctic). It does have a very cute, sweet face that I think Viking did a nice job on. Thank you for your delightful comment my friend

Phil doesn't this truly look like a happy and peaceful wild animal, the artist obviously loved its subject. Thank you for your superb comment

Alfie thank you so much for your great, kind & observant compliments about my photography, you have guessed my goals in taking pictures of these colorless glass animals. My best shots are in partial sunlight so as not to obscure the detailing, I've taken this type both indoors & outdoors (my Viking lion is a good example of the latter) and it seems to work pretty well

Thanks jojo for your most welcome praise, I'm really glad you liked this Viking animal

Lauren your perceptive eye is awesome, as the saying goes, by jove I think you've got it! This animal is most commonly called a raccoon but also a fox, so when a commenter claimed the snout was too short for a fox I went with raccoon - but now an ARCTIC fox, that makes more sense because they have that furry neck and sweet face. Then again, there are spaces next to the eyes that could be a raccoon, so oh well! Thanks my friend for your always insightful and wonderful comment

TallCakes I was hoping you would stop by to shed some light on this animal but I see you've encountered the same raccoon/fox dilemma, and to make matters even more confusing, Viking made a smaller piece often called either fox or raccoon as well (it is usually clear glass, a different design, small and chunky). I've seen all your referenced articles & photos and yes, I know Viking also made a different raccoon bookend, so I've adjusted the title & description to add 'aka fox'. If a fox, I think my perceptive friend Lauren has a good vote for the arctic variety, as it doesn't really have the longer nose & shorter fur of the common fox, but with artistic license only the Viking glassmaker would truly know I expect

Well BB2, how about a furry arctic fox, is that more likely for you? I can also see a husky dog in this design, but in truth they call it either raccoon or fox, so only the Viking Glass people would have known what the intention was. Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment & remember, there are alot of weird looking animals out there :)))

Not only did I like the viking animal but the way you lit the subject and the focus control you showed in you pictures...well done ... some of you little friends most likely don't know what a torch key raccoon is down south its...shorter nose , rounder ears ..thicker fur ....sounds something like yours huh... stay safe from the storm..

Damonways, thank you for the info about a torch key raccoon down south. I only thought there existed one kind of racoon; with the black mask.

Damon thank you so much for your super praise for my photos, I did try to play a little with light & shadow, and the raccoon was a nice subject. Thanks too for the info about the torch key raccoon, I googled some pix and it does look very similar to this glass animal so that could be the model for Viking, great info! Also thanks much for your good wishes about the storm, we narrowly missed the hurricane which was downgraded to a tropical storm, so we just got heaps of rain which my husband has a pump for that goes into the sewer, so no flooding thank goodness

Alfie I see you concur on learning about the torch key raccoon, isn't it great to read & learn from others here on CW, it is a wonderful thing & I appreciate your commenting on this

BB2 lol, you are a survivor! Living on an island I'm sure you have been thru your share of storms & hurricanes, God bless & keep that great attitude - my northeast island (Long Island NY) gets storms but not nearly the magnitude of yours
