Found this Essie Rose vintage box with stockings last week at my local Flea Market. My wife immediately noticed them and said Oh we used to buy these as gifts for my grandmother.
I believe this company produced and sold these stockings from the 1940s - 1970s.
A blast from the past and I hope you enjoy fond memories of this vintage article of women’s clothing.
    Cheers

I recall my mom having a box or 2 in her dresser….new stockings we kids were not supposed to touch. And then, there were also the necessary garter belts or panty girdle with those stocking “hooks” (or whatever those metal and rubber things were called).

These type stockings were usually so silky & luxurious to the touch, much more than the stretchy pantyhose to come. The ladies in my family all wore them, and the older ones would roll them up the leg as opposed to wearing the uncomfortable belts. Thanks clockerman for a cool nostalgic post!

Watchsearcher Thanks for your comment, I’m sure my mom had all of the accessories along with these stockings although I would have never gone into her dresser. I would have been murdered, lol.

Thanks for the kind comment. These kinds of items bring back memories of an era that seems to be almost gone. Glad you enjoyed the post!

Newfld, I know what you mean about the older ladies rolling the stockings up their legs. Those ladies wore circular garters- like a thick rubber band with a silky covering.
As I recall Granny taking off her stockings, she would start rolling the garter and stocking down her leg; when she got to her foot, she took it off as one unit and left it just like that till the next occasion to wear it….then she would slip her foot in and just roll it right back up her leg.
Those circular garters were probably really bad for the circulation. :^/
She always wore sturdy black shoes with blocky low heels, lace up style, and in summer, she wore the same style but with open toes. And always, she wore stocking with circular garters positioned right below her knees.
Thanks Newfld—those are good memories. :-)
