Trying to identify any history on this 60" tall torchiere candelabra floor lamp. It is very heavy with a cast iron base, cherubs and a relief sculpture. Probably marble in sections. The only marking is a number...either 428 or 429. Thanks for any help!
Anyone have any ideas where or who make this lamp or how old it is?
Looks like a mixture of genres. With the Christian cherubs and what looks like a depiction of Father Thames. I can't be sure what he is wearing on his head or holds in his left hand.
The grinding marks on the cherubs wings tells me definitely industrial age or later, but probably not after the 1930s. Almost looks like a neoclassic revival. I can't tell how uniform in color the glass is. Is it slag glass? if so this may also nail down the time frame made.
More than likely European in origin.
i'd guess 1920s-1940, just by the type of lamp.
Thank you for the helpful information. Yes, we now believe the lamp probably contains slag glass or a compressed glass. If you believe it was made in Europe, do you think we could find more information in a European museum or contact? Thanks again!
