We had a distinguished visitor in town again, today!
Pictured here this afternoon relaxing at the UP Jenks Engine Shops in North Little Rock, he'll pull back away and out of town in the morning to continue the journey back to Cheyenne, WI pulling the UP HERITAGE TRAIN. I didn't get the opportunity during this visit to capture him 'under way' on his route into town earlier, but have seen (and video-ed) that before. We're lucky to have the (diesel) engine shops here because it provides a convenient and fully equipped spot for UP to actually *park* a thing this size... <lolol> Even though the sun was at a rather impossible angle, I hope y'all enjoy the pics! :-) :-) :-)

It must've been amazing to see this Big Boy in person!
I am a big fan of the Big Boy. I used to visit it when it was in Pomona before restoration.
It is a Beautiful Locomotive.
BIG !!!
Thanks SO much to blunderbuss2, vetraio50, Vynil33rpm, Alfie21, fortapache, Newfld, & vintagelamp for stopping by with your <love it> button punches!!
BIG is an understatement vet50 -- the drive wheels alone on this choo-choo are taller than most adults. Likewise was the job this series of locos were first built for -- pulling long, heavy trainsful of *rock* (and etc) up and down across the Rocky Mountains. "Controlled Violence" is how a friend of mine termed these engines...a pretty good way to describe them!!
Here's a link to a YouTube video I captured a couple years ago now, the last time #4014 was in town.

Oh Baby!! I lover these articulated behemoths.
AnythingObscure, your video of #4014 coming around the corner with all the steam was great. And, all the cars & #4014 were so polished & shiny!
Alfie21, the *funnest* thing about that video is the fact that I was otherwise 'away from home' on a legitimate service call from work, the location of which happened to be exactly across the street from that grade crossing -- thus I actually GOT PAID to go 'trainspotting' that morning??!!! <WOO-HOO!!!> :-) :-) :-)
THAT is ever-so-cool !!
