Still working through some previously un - posted hand vases, these ones are more of the smaller sized specimens, 20 cm & under.
Photo 1 - A pair of cased green hand vases with enamel decoration, just making the cut at 20 cm in height. This mould shape is also seen in some taller vases with different rim treatments. The central vase is a darker green with a bright white lining is 17.5 cm tall, & to me it looks like a later iteration of the same mould shape (they have a weird looking thumb, I know...)
Photo 2 - An unusual pair in pale Jadeite - type green. The plainly cut tops are a rarely seen rim treatment, as is the rope - like detail just below.
These are actually marked underneath, with the letters M. S. In between is a symbol which looks kind of like the top half of a human figure with arms raised. I have tried to identify the maker without any success.
Photo 3 - A pair in turquoise, just under 11 cm tall, & the same shape in clear light blue, 11.5 cm tall. The one on the right was the first hand vase I ever bought way back in 1995...it has a little chip out of the base. I just remember being so excited to find my first ever hand vase that the chip didn't matter a bit. Years later I was able to find a mate for it to create a pair & later the clear version came along.
Just curious - all your hand vases seem to be right-handed - are there any left-handed vases?

Yes, there are some left - handed ones, but they are fairly rare. You'll see a few of them here & there in my previous hand vase posts. Most "pairs" of hand vases are two right hands. I have only two pairs that have both left & right hands.

Thanks also, vintagelamp! I have downsized it somewhat over the last couple of years but I guess it is still a pretty big collection. I know that there are some other folks out there that also have a passion for these, as the bidding used to get pretty hot back in the old days when eBay used to show the usernames of people bidding on the same items as you were, & I recall seeing the same ones time & time again. They were probably familiar with mine, too, & wished I'd give up the game, LOL!
I love the two jadeite hand vases with the straight rim! If you are downsizing your hand vases, please keep me in mind.
I recently packed up my collection for an anticipated move - I'm at 175 and always looking for more.
I wonder if it is easier to get certain makers in the US/Canada, versus where you are located...I suspect that Fenton is somewhat easier to get here. Reach out if there are particular ones you are looking for.
Hi aftica1, that's quite a collection you've got! 175 is most impressive indeed!
And quite a lot to pack for a move. I moved three years ago & I had all my other art glass to deal with as well. It took me 3 months, often working several hours a day, to pack my collection. I had no breakages - it was moved in our own car week by week (I was in process of preparing my house for sale while easing into the new house, so was able to take my time). Only my furniture & general household items went in the removal truck!
I'm located in Australia, & the majority of my hand vases have been bought online, mostly from the USA, but also UK & Europe. I've found a reasonable amount locally over the years as well. All my Fenton vases have been purchased from the USA.
As to what I'm looking for...well, I'm not really trying to get any more hand vases. I still have a fair few packed away as it is. But I'd be interested in an original 1950s Fenton Black Rose (I have the 1990s carnival version). And I'd like to find a Victorian era hand vase in a mauve/lavender shade, either cased or opaque glass.
I'll keep my eyes peeled for you as I sometimes see the 50's Fenton Black Rose hand vase pop up. I'll post a picture of my mauve/lavender hand vase with a hankerchief rim when I unpack it - it's been a long process packing them up and I'm really hoping that there is no breakage! And yep, I've moved each box myself in the car into storage and will take each box out of storage myself once we are settled in our new home. Sign - the angst of moving antique glass!
