Antique Wooden Water Pump
Found at a local shop and finally installed. Makes a nice, decorative yard feature. Does anyone know what the piece of wood attached to the side is used for?

I’ll take a guess here about that wood thing…the old water pumps I recall had to be primed.
That thing might be a handle for releasing some retained water to prime the pump.
I hope someone with real knowledge comes to your aid with a definite answer.
I have the same pump ...mine was made by a company in Maine still has the company's name on it up by the handle and the black strips and the blood red color it came in .....no idea what the stick is for ... nice to see another one....
