REALLY REALLY big 'high-tension' powerlines that is -- those found on the tall steel structures (vs. 'poles' of any sort) that carry enough electricity to power a small city. (or part of a large one, or whatever) Compare to the size of my foot in pic 1, they're ceramic insulator elements suspended between specialized cast iron (?) links that make the whole assembly "articulated", in that each section can move somewhat independently of the others, so that the huge electric wires sorta 'swing' from their support structure as they hang instead of being rigidly mounted to anything.
I don't know offhand what company or companies made them, pic 4 shows maker's info on the metal portions of one set, it's likely that they do have more info on them somewhere that I haven't looked close enough (or disassembled) to see yet. I also wouldn't say they are all that old since similar are still used all over everywhere, I don't know that for a fact either.
They'll never hold electricity again necessarily, but I happen to think either (both) will make a cool addition to my sorta unusual brand of 'yard art'...?? ;-) :-) :-)
I found several of the brown ones abandoned on the ground adjacent to power lines a few years ago. I wanted to lug them home and find some creative use for them but they were so heavy, I had to leave them where I found them. :-(
I love these and have a couple, but clear…one I use as a water and bird feeder, I listed it some time ago..
