I guess it's a tool chest. I've seen these for years, but this one is nicer than most and in wonderful condition. Lots of sailing scenes on it. It smells great too.

A cedar tool chest. Well that has to be a first. Cedar is a soft wood that doesn't take much of a beating. This could be used as a tool box but I hate thoughts of the tool I need always being at the bottom. It doesn't show wear that suggests it having been a tool box. It looks small enough to be a linen box. Cedar would be ideal for that. I have a full size cedar chest from the 1930's I keep saying I plan to refinish but at this age I guess it won't happen.
well that makes more sense! it's a little over 2 ft long.
You don't give the dimensions. The end panel you've photographed as a gated scene - what do you make of that?
Sea shells and seaweed I think. I don't believe it's a tool box though. Not lined in cedar. Agree with fhrjr2 on that one.
has not as!
Really interesting!
oops! dimensions are 25 inches across, 16 inches tall. It's made of camphor wood, i've discovered.
