There's nothing inherently unusual about this old 6" steel hex bolt, BUT for the way it now shows some rather *incredible* wear??!! Found in a driveway the other day with the intent to toss it aside to the curb, as soon as I picked it up I knew it was a 'keeper' instead... <lol>
As can be seen, roughly 1/2 of its shaft diameter is worn away entirely, leaving most of it with a () profile. The wear is a little uneven at each end, the original profile still exists for the ~1/4" immediately below the head and the outside ~1/2" of its threads.
I HAVE TO ASSUME that it was used for something with a nut on its very end to hold somethings otherwise 'loose-ish' together, like a gate latch on a trailer or somesuch, or that it fell from a load of scrap metal -- instead of actually holding (no longer) any crucial part of somebody's CAR or TRUCK together...? <eeek>
