I just love this, I bought the trunk and an antique dresser about 6 years ago at an shop in Oregon, He said he had just got them from an estate sale of a man that lived upon the hill behind his shop. I have not found any info on it yet. It say's "Gibraltarized" on the top right corner of the trunk and it it still has a lot of the stickers from travelling. I would have loved to have the heard the excursions this thing has been on.
I just bought one from an estate sale. says the same thing. Did you ever find anything out about it?
I ran into a homeless guy who had just been given a trunk of this kind. Seeing him trying to drag it down the street was somewhat amusing. Not surprisingly, He delivered it to me for a reasonable price. Interestingly, it still has the original key. Very cool coffee table. So I have heard the term steamtrunk to describe these items too. I think I remember a antique show noting a old manf. that plagiarized the h"gilbralterized" term from the Hartmann co.
