This is a rare item from a Marx Johnny West store display. It is the Buckskin horse which was Thunderbolt with nodding head. Also, the head and neck turn left and right for some realistic movement. Not really my favorite as the head tends to go in the down position all the time. This one is keeping its head up pretty well so you don't need to tell it to stop grazing and giddy up.
Now as a store display horse it has 5 holes drilled into it to keep the rider on and avoid unauthorized removal. The front left and right rear hooves have holes in them to attach the horse to the display base. There are two holes to that went through the rider's legs and one that went into the horse's back as seen in photo 3. Looks like the rider was usually Sheriff Garrett so this would be a fairly large display with most or all the characters. The date stamp on the horse is MCMLXX which is 1970. Most likely it from a 1974 Best of the West display.
Got two more store display horses to go so I hope everyone likes store display horses.
It's a really well modeled horse. Even the shadow of ribs.
