Antique Army Cannon Mounted Truck_Metal_Battery Operated_Photo by Samuel E. Warren Jr. This was one of my favorite toys in my toy box in the late 1950s. I don't know what toy company built this truck, but it stood up to the wear and tear of my childhood. Wearing my dad's brown U.S. Army World War II service cap, sitting on the concrete floor of the garage at 313 East 36th Street, in Houston, Texas, I spent time with this truck defeating the Axis powers of the day. I had forgot that it had a battery compartment because apparently the batteries leaked and corroded the compartment. But, with a metal toy truck like this, imagination always supplied the power anyway. It has lasted through my determined kid testing hours of play and has lasted through about 50 years in storage, except when I take it out sometimes to let it get some sunshine and remember those days of childhood playing in the garage.
