I got this 4' by 4' heavy wood art piece at an estate sale. The reason I got this item was because of the carvings. I thought it was very unique and looked one of a kind.
I did some research on this piece and found some impressing information on Rothschild Family Crest/Coat of Arms. It belonged to Mayer Amschel Rothschild who was place on the first rung of nobility by the Austrian Emperor in 1817. They were granted the rights to armorial bearing, and to use the suffix "Von" in their names. Those members of the family living in Frankfurt and Vienna were thus know as Von Rothchild, whereas theParis, and later the Naples, branches of the familty adapted this to the French style "de". Their titles were enhanced to Baron in 1822, when the Austrian barony was granted to Salomon Von Rothchild and his brothers by Imperial decree. The Barony was granted to the five brothers and their heirs and descendants of both sexes. The crest comprises of a shield surmounted by a baronial crown, topped by three crowns on top of noble "tournament-style" helmets; from the crown positioned above the visor of the helmet in the centre stands an eagle, the helmets on the right and left are turned towards one another, from the crown on the rights helmet floats a golden star between two buffalo horns, from the crown on the left helmet come three ostrich feathers. Beneath the shield is written the family motto on the band featuring the latin words: Concordia, Integritas, Industria. (Harmony, Integrity, Industry)
I would like to know if this an original or copy.
I would appreciate any information.
