I bought this back in 1999 at Wal-Mart.Over the years all the wood started rotting.I had some 2x12x10 oak boards I thought I could rip down and redo the bench.After cutting all the wood I repainted all the cast metal.Put it all back together and this is what I got.
Being solid oak it should last for along time.I really enjoyed this project.
Being the purist that I am, I have never been a fan of these benches, (many people take the sign out of the middle and try to represent it as an old item) . . . but ya know, this one looks really nice. I wouldnt mind having it on my patio!

I had an idea for while taking one of these benches, removing the cast iron center, and putting a real 1939 coca cola porcelain sign there. I don't know if it would fit though.

If ya rebuild one like I did you could make it work.But being the back of bench you would have to brace the porcelain sign so it wont bend.
