I received this from my grandfather as an inheritance, I am told by my father that he got it in the war. I have been trying to get some information about this as it is very interesting. I have been told that it is genuine, but after reading about how many fakes are going around, I don't know if my grandfather was duped in the war.
Is there anyone out there that can confirm if it is indeed a genuine, and is there anyone out there that can give me some information about this camera. Such as who it may have been given to or why it was commissioned? I would appreciate anyone that can help me in this quest for information.
I do not want to sell this even if it turns out to be a fake as it still holds sentimental value being in the family for the last 30 years. But it would be nice to know one way or another.

Your Leica camera has a serial number. Google "Leica Serial Numbers" and you will find the year the camera was made and if it is a real Leica camera and not a copy from china. Also you can check ebay under Leica 35mm cameras and see what similar models are selling for. Good luck!

This is a Russian copy of a Leica ModII made by Zorki, the lens is a copy of the Leica Elmar also, these were made post war in the 50's, I have an identical one, mine has serial No 257043 and is also complete with case and lens cap, although not genuine they are a nice collectable camera.

its a russian leica copy made by zorki-not a real leica camera-some were made in 'wood' covering-some in gold-some in all black-some in green snakeskin-many for sale on ebay.

Most likely way of identifying a Fake Leica is to look at the focusing cam. After you remove the lens, at the top inside just below the range finder window, you will see a ROUND wheel that is spring loaded and swings back and fourth on genuine Leica's. The fake Zorki's will have a 'tri-angle' oval device.
