Woda insisted on helping me with these pics, of this thing I've *had* for more than a couple years, during which I've *never* known its exact intended purpose. Anybody wanna hazard a guess, or better if its really *that* obvious?? ;-) ;-) :-) :-)

It is almost 33" long overall, most of which is a 1/4" round steel rod that's loosely fixed in a cast aluminum handle that's the same on both sides. By loosely, I mean that the rod can spin freely but not come out, looking like it must have a groove around its end inside the handle so the punched dimples on each side of that hold it captive, or at least mostly captive as the rod can also move in/out of the handle 1/8" or so.

The 'bizness end' of the rod is flatted on each side for about 2-3/4" just shy of that end, with a 5/8" long slender slot cut into the middle of that. A bit bent now, probably didn't come that way. There are absolutely no markings of any kind on it anywhere.

I can guess enough that it is made to hook onto something that'd be about that far generally away from somebody, then maybe to pull or twist on that thing, but WHAT thing??

To me, it looks like a gun cleaning tool…a bit of oily cloth would fit thru the “eye” of the tool so you can clean the barrel of a gun. (But I’m the first to say, I’m no expert).

I agree with Watchsearcher part of a gun cleaning kit..from the pictures it looks like its for a small bore..like a 22,.. but hard telling by the pictures..good luck

Almost certainly a rifle cleaning rod. The fact that the rod will turn in then handle is significant. Designed this way so that the flannelette (cloth) patch in the eyelet of the rod follows the rifling in the barrel rather than skipping over it.

If the rod is 1/4" diameter then it cannot be for a .22 Must be for a larger calibre weapon.

This is the cleaning rod for the Browning .50 cal. I have one and use it with muzzle loaders for cleaning.
