    Hi,
I have this Shirley Temple doll and to me she looks like she might be an Ideal Shirley Temple prototype, not only because of her pretty face with dimples, 6 teeth etc., but even her back looks exactly like the backs of the dolls they made later.
However, I tried to look inside the head (without detaching it) and I cannot see any label. There are no markings outside.
Can you please advise? Thank you.

Edit: She was not a prototype, but I have now added a real prototype with the COP Ideal N&TC and deleted the photo of the other doll. She now has the dress the other doll had. :)

Hi . There were many Shirley Temple look a likes . Your doll has a replaced wig and has had repainting. The dress is modern . . She has a cute face but I see differences from original Shirley 1930's . Yours has tin eyes so is early . The early Shirley protypes were marked COP IDEAL N&TC and some had a paper label in head . I do not believe she is a Ideal Shirley from this photo '.

Hi, thank you for your reply.
Yes, the wig is actually from another doll I have, and I think the dress might be from a later vinyl Ideal Shirley Temple doll? I have seen some on eBay with exactly the same dress. She came with it, but it was not claimed to be original.
She had some crazing, so I tried to hide it a bit with some painting, but I believe she had been repainted before. I even think there is something like an N, possibly a marking, but it might just be the repainting that is not smooth, I don't know.

he also has two dimples on her back like this doll: https://www.ebay.com/itm/125148579769?hash=item1d236fc7b9:g:OfIAAOSw-T5h8D3m
These dimples on the back are sort of cute and I have not seen them in any other doll I have.
I can see that the back has been repainted too though.

I think she is a Eegee Composition Doll named "MISS CHARMING ," produced as a Shirley Temple Look Alike. How tall is your doll ?

Hi, thank you. I had this thought too this morning when another poster showed an Eegee doll and I looked them up. The face in particular has an expression that looks very similar to those dolls. The only difference I have noticed is in the left hand, as the index finger and the pinkie are closer to the other fingers as compared to some of these Miss Charming dolls, where those two fingers seem to stick out a bit?
My doll is something between 13.5 and 14", probably closer to 13.5, but she is loosely strung.

You were right. I have now bought a real prototype and there are definitely differences. I will post s photo of the real Ideal at some stage. Her wig has been combed, so the curls have gone, and I am trying to create some curls, but definitely not 52 (as she apparently originally had?). It is not quite easy to roll those curls...

I have added a photo of my new baby... She has the COP Ideal N&TC marking. I liked the other doll too, but am absolutely in love with the new one!

They are both lovely. What I don't like so much are the later vinyl dolls Ideal made. The early ones (like this one) were so much better. The vinyl dolls are less pretty and also look a bit older.
      The curls look fine!

I agree. The very first vinyl dolls they made were nice, but those they made later are not particularly pretty.
I just regret not buying some that were very cheap because of the dresses, which I could have now used for my composition Shirley... She is the right size, and I think the dress she now has on belonged to a vinyl Ideal too.

I have added a photo with her new hairdo. Not perfect, but a bit better than it was when she arrived. :)
