I was in the antique mall here in Phoenix, AZ and I happen to run across this really cheap. It is bottle # 9.
This decanter is a replica of a bottle originally designed by Mr. Lem Motlow, Mr. Jack's nephew. In 1905, Mr. Motlow filled the bottle with our favorite drink and sent it to the Maxwell House Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. The owner of the Maxwell House Hotel, former Confederate colonel John Overton, liked the bottle as much as he did the whiskey and requested a meeting with Lem.
The meeting between Mr. Motlow and Mr. Overton resulted in the Maxwell House agreeing that Jack Daniel's would be the only whiskey served to the guests and visitors of the fine hotel. Mr. Motlow would also become co-owner of the Oak Bar, the hotel bar. The Oak Bar would be the only place where the decanter would be used.
Decanter description:
While the 1971 bottle is similar to the original, it differs in that it is slightly larger and there are minor changes to the lettering. A handsome bottle, nonetheless.
