      Hi Saw76,

I've been trying to identify your clock and stumbled upon it while looking up something else. Your grandfather made a great pick when he bought this Seth Thomas "Metals Series" mantel clock to celebrate your birthday. The metal on your clock almost looks like a darker accent wood which made it difficult to identify. Your model is called "Metals No. 2" from circa 1900. According to Tran Duy Ly, it is an 8-day with Half-hour strike. Made in oak only. Ornamented with metal (of course). It has a 6-inch dial, height of 23 inches and a 6 wire cathedral bell strike, alarm. The initial price was $25.65 which would have been equivalent to $663! Certainly not a cheap clock by most standards. It was most recently appraised by Ly at $475 in 2005. There is an auctioneer named Tom Harris in Iowa who sells a lot of clocks. On July 27, 2011 they sold this model (without an alarm) for about $200 (buyer's premium included). It looked like it was in pretty nice shape. These are beautiful clocks. Here are a couple of photos of it at: http://p2.la-img.com/289/25761/9538017_1_l.jpg and http://p1.la-img.com/289/25761/9538017_2_l.jpg. If you decide to clean your clock case up, be careful not to use anything abrasive or containing alcohol and test on inconspicuous area first. Better yet, considering the value of this clock as an heirloom, if I wanted to restore and run it, I would probably take it to a professional, or I would enjoy the memories it evokes it just the way it is. Take care,

      Bruce

Well thank you do much Bruce. I love my clock very much and I am so glad someone found some info on it. Like you said family heirloom , it it shall be passed down to my children. Looks like I'm going to have to get on google now and search for the perfect clock smith to give it a once over and tune up. That might take me some time to find the right one, I really don't want to trust just anyone with it. Thank you again

      Hi Seth,
You are very welcome! As you search, you may want to reference the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors business directory at http://www.nawcc.org/index.php/business-directory.

      Regards,

      Bruce
