I found this dime and can't find another one that has the same markings. I'm so unknowledgable that I don't even have novice status. I would love to hear from anyone who has any ideas about why this looks like it does. I appreciate any help or guidance and valuable time you can offer.
Good eye! However, that one looks to have been damaged, by being pinched in something, after it was minted. They reason I say that is the rim, around the edge. Notice it begins to flatten out, quite a ways before it gets to the really flat part. In the dies they use, this would have meant it had either been dropped onto a steel floor, or something like that, or else they had struck something a lot harder than the coin blank. Best way to tell, for certain, would be to take it to a dealer, nearby. Pawn shops have folks with a pretty good knowledge of coins, so you might hit up the local shop, they may be able to help.
Looks like it's been beat with a hammer, that's all.
