This was a super find on eBay AU - a Victorian palm tree vase by John Walsh Walsh. I already have three other examples, but this is the first one I've found locally.
The colour was also a surprise to me, as I did not know that this vase was made in white! Always something new to learn in collecting.
It is made from two layers of cased glass, clear over opaque white. Measuring 15.5 cm tall, it features clear applied decoration of downwards facing fronds around the top rim, & upwards facing leaves on the base. The trunk is covered with rustic thorn pull - out decoration.
Made in England, 1880s.
Last photo shows it with two other JWW palm tree vases in blue & pink. I also have a taller version in clear ruby glass.
Who knows, maybe I'll find another colour in the future...yellow would be nice...or green...
Congratulations, Marin. They look fabulous together.
They make me think of waking up on a frigid winter morning to find the trees all encased in sparkling ice. :^)
Many thanks, Kevin!
They're (unintentionally) flying my flag colours, too!
Thanks so much, Patricia - that's a really beautiful picture you've painted! We are expecting some cold mornings over the next few days so I might see something like it...
BEAUTIFUL find— love the grouping!
