A friend found this wonderful piece of carnival chalkware in an older relative's home in rural Mississippi, and gave it to me. Front reads: WE SHALL WIN GEN.L MAC ARTHUR. Face features appear hand painted, with the rest being air brushed. A search of the internet failed to locate a picture or any information of this particular piece.
The inscribed phrase, “We Shall Win” was spoken by Gen. Douglas MacArthur on March 26, 1942, during a dinner given in his honor at the Australian Parliament House, Canberra, Australia. He said, in part, “There can be no compromise. We shall win or we shall die, and to this end I pledge you the full resources of all the mighty power of my country and all the blood of my countrymen.”
