I acquired this after cleaning out an old building and thought it was very unique. I have not had any luck finding anything on the web because I am not very good on the computer. I pulled up Hamilton Mfg's website because that is the company that made this chair. I found they have a museum so I e-mailed pictures to them to see if they knew what it was. He told me they did not have the catalogs that might help answer my question but he thought it might be an opthomologists chair. The only numbers I found on the chair are below.
    Registry #7106
    California Serial #2833
    Massachusetts Serial #161
I would be happy if someone sees this and tells me what it is.
I forgot to add that the seat swivels.

I believe this is a "hallway chair" or a "hall chair". I have never seen one in person, but I have read about them. I have no idea of the value.

I don't know for sure, but it looks like an adjustable Piano stool from the mid to late 1800s. We had one when I was a boy in 1958, and it was an old item then. the only difference I see is that ours had a glass ball under each leg. You might want to follow this idea in your research. I hope this helps.
