    Skull & Crossbones Bottle Opener

I picked this up a week or so ago and have been waiting to post this. So hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween! It is a modern piece with a faux rust patina

ARGHH BE WARNED THE JOLLY ROGER FLAG
Pirates seized the symbol of mortality from ship captains who used the skull as a sign in their ships logs to indicate a record of death.

The word "Halloween" comes from All Hallows' Eve and means "hallowed evening."

"The word hallow is derived from the Middle and Old English words for holy. As a noun, it can also mean saint."

The history of Halloween dates back to a pagan festival called Samhain.

Samhain - the first day of November, celebrated by the ancient Celts as a festival marking the beginning of winter.

"It marked a pivotal time of year when seasons changed, but more importantly, observers also believed the boundary between this world and the next became especially thin, enabling them to connect with the dead."

Hundreds of years ago, people dressed up as saints and went door-to-door, which is the origin of Halloween costumes and trick-or-treating.

      dav2no1, Cool. :-)

I have a cast iron bottle opener with a faux rust patina, but it isn't a skull-and-crossbones motif.

Do I spy the infamous combination bottle opener/shoe horn in your wall collection? };-)

Anyway, here is some mood music:
