I had posted this old phone to get information on it about 2 months ago. Since then I have restored it almost back to as origanal condition as much as I could anyway. I went through everything, including finding the correct transmitter and stainless magneto bands for it, using cloth covered wire, having the nickel parts replated in a satin finish. The cabinet was is fair shape, but the insides were really corroded and rusty to the point where the magneto was stuck solid.
Anyway, this is my first attempt at anything like this and it was a fun project. Just thought I'd share.

Randy, One very nice restoral job on the Julius Andrae. I have been collecting and restoring antique telephones since 1965 and I had alot of trial and error with what oil stains to use such as light or dark oak, walnut., etc.

      Thanks, Tom,
I tried to match the original finish the best I could. The one thing I lack, is an original Julias Andrae receiver. I'd like to find one in good shape at a reasonable price.
Thanks again on the compliment. I'm proud of it.

      Duanne,
Thanks for this information on the JA on eBay. I'll check it out. Does your phone have the receiver with outside terminals?
I thought the one on my phone was similar to the the original.

Randy,Actually no and when I got the phone it had no earpiece. It was given to me by a fellow employee that was going to throw it in our garbage bin at work. The entire rest of the phone was original and intact.I used to send all my repair work to "Old Chicago Telephone"which has been sold to a person who moved the company to Canada from North Carolina. The old guy in N.C. was reputable and sold it to someone he felt was reputable. So you might check with them and see if they have parts, too. My phone is at my cabin in Wisconsin, and when I get back there in the spring I'll post a photo.

Also ,I found out from the guy in N.C.that our type phone was a high end quality phone in its day and he told me they were pretty rare and sought after, and only rich folks would have had a JA phone. He was very excited to repair mine and as I said before he'd made me a nice offer for it.He gave me the option to install a dial assembly inside it to be able to dial out but I chose originality.

Oaktown try Chicago Old Telephone. They were from Sanford N.C. but have been bought out and are located in Canada now.Quebec??? I think. Just do your search using the above name. They have NEVER disappointed me yet.(don't hold me to that!!!!!HAHHA!! )Let me know if you have success.Duanne

I recently purchased a JA wall phone, in what I would say decent shape. It seems to have all the inners....right now I'm planning on using it as a wall decoration. My questions are....
Is it worth it to keep the parts inside in place?
Is there a way I could use it without a landline...ie...via cell phone...?
The tag on is is JA, but the mouth piece says Kellogg.
I'm not familiar with old phones...at all.
Can someone help me out with my options on what I can do with this?
      Thanks.
