Bought this in a collection of Scandinavian Glass at auction last year - It has no markings at all but it has all of the hallmarks of 1950's Kosta designer Vicke Lindstrand. I have seen an identical piece in pink or blue with white vertical 'candy stripes'.
Its quite large at 12" long, 9" high and 6" deep and weighs in at 2.5 kilos.
A similar smaller blue and white striped version is found here: http://www.oldthings.se/frame_glass.htm, it has the same clear casing, shape and form. What do we think please guys and gals???
Kosta would be signed. Ditto for Holmegaard (Denmark). Riihimaki have used this a very similar colour though usually darker and I've never come across any in this shape. It's always best to photograph coloured glass against white so that the exact shade can be seen.
Krosno (Poland) have made large Scandi-looking pieces and the Chinese started making them about 10 years ago. You used to see them in TK Max & high-end kitchen and gift shops with their Made in China Bar code labels. The quality is superb, complete with polished pontils.
The shape is known as a "Fan" vase. Tricky but not difficult to do. A round bowl is blown and then carefully folded inwards while the glass is still hot enough to be plastic. Unusual in such a large size.
