This is my first antique doll. I started my eclectic doll collection when she was given to me by an Austrian diplomat who escaped the concentration camps by fleeing to China. The maker is UNIS from France and according to the provenance it was gifted to the previous owner by a Belgian uncle fighting with the allies during WWII. The back of the head has its proper ID numbers. It was cleaned and restored by the former Puppen Museum in Austria but still shows its age. No chips or crack lines. According to the curator it was old already when the previous owner received it as a child. She has the original human hair wig, green eyes, and original shoes. I made the dress myself with antique materials. How old do you think it can be? Thank you.

Union Nationale Inter-Syndicale of collective marks (UNIS). She has had face repainted. Dates around 1910-1930, You did a wonderful job on dress !

Thank you Manikin! How come she had her face repainted? It must have been a long time ago. Maybe between when she was made and 1945. The cleaning and restoration was done around 20 years ago and no one has touched her before that. She came back from China after the war ended and spent her years in a pantry. I'm glad to learn she is at least 100 years old and still looking so good. She is a size 11 and 2. Not sure if there are many like her around. What do you think?

I could be wrong on painting something just seem off .But these dolls were toward end of bisque dolls and yes without holding her it could be original.

Thank you so much for your comments Manikin! I just read that the odd numbers are rare, not many around left. That makes me even happier. I've been searching online and haven't found any like her yet. I'll keep looking around and see if I can find more information about her. Please, if you have a chance let me know what else you find. Thanks again.

And yes, she has a bisque head and a ball-jointed composition body. The body held once a "talking-box" of some sorts.

The UNIS label worn by many French dolls was put in place to protect French production across all product categories. It is a national label, not a registered trademark. This is how it announces the guarantee that it is French. It is the acronym for "UNION NATIONALE INTER-SYNDICALE"" On each side of the oval it has a number, the one on the left means the type of object, Toy, in the case of dolls it is number 71. on the right the number corresponding to the manufacturer, if it is from the SFBJ it would be 149, 301 the mold. This label was used from 1916 until World War 2. So to know which manufacturer made it, we must also know what number each had. one, the most common is 149 since it grouped a large number of factories. Finally below a number that can be any and that would be the size. 2, 1/0 etc
