Pennsylvania Railroad brass top, bell bottom railorad lantern made by the Adams & Westlake Co., of Chicago, IL, in the mid-1870's. This is an early, no. 39 lantern with 1865 dates, the A&W football logo, and other dates stamped into the chimney and lid reflector. It also has 1870's Wm. Westlake pat. dates stamped in the underside of the base. The lantern is prominently embossed P.R.R. The flashed ruby globe is embossed PRR in heavy relief, with unusual letters for this RR. This model is also know to exist with a chimney bail for the PRR, and was established by the manufacturer as a "pattern". The chimney on this lantern has provisions for a chimney bail.
