I am curious if this item would be considered folkart or fall into the automobilia collectible category. The woman who owned it said her father made it in the late 30s and often repurposed items.
He took a Flotex anti freeze can (with a date of 1935) and used parts of a mobil oil can, soldered all pieces together to form a watering can or perhaps used it to pour oil into his vehicles.
My pics do not do it justice. It is just a neat looking item. Thanks in advance for any info and if anyone believes it has value as found.
I don't know, but am thinking the fact it's been converted might detract from the value of the actual oil can? Here's one of the same oil cans up for sale on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/190575700528
Hi SMD,
Thanks for the link to ebay. His can is in excellent condition. I tend to agree with you about the value being lowered due to the fact it was converted. I will put some flowers in it and set it out with my old watering cans.
By the way, this is such a neat website! I am so glad to have stumbled upon it. Also, thanks to youngblood, Lisa, and Stonesfan1 for the thumbs up.
