The Hartford Whalers operated the AHL franchise in Binghamton, New York, for most of its tenure. The Rangers, Capitols, Senators and Devils also sponsored the franchise over the years.

Though many players from Binghamton moved onto the NHL, the short length of the rink, 180 feet, most likely led to the NHL abandoning this city.
