Lake Erie & Western RR brass top, bellbottom railroad lantern made by the Adams & Westlake Co., of Chicago, IL, in the early 1880's. This single-guard, no. 39 model, is boldly embossed on the lid reflector L. E. & W. R. R. The underside of the base is stamped with the A&W hallmark that includes several patent dates, the latest of which is 1882. The sun purple (clear), extended base globe is boldly embossed LE&WRR in very heavy relief. This globe is a gorgeous amethyst color in natural light, and has the most boldly embossed lettering I've ever seen on a RR globe.
