Can anyone tell me about my Mother's vase...I received it when she passed away many years ago.....she received it from her good friend/neighbor when she died. I would like to know what kind of glass, how old, etc. email at barefoot1943@aol.com Thank you!
looks like Imperial Glass #404, 'Feather Notching and Button'
Thanks, I will have to do some research.
Thanks, I will have to do some research.
Imperial made this vase in 9" and 13" sizes. It was their "No. 404 Bouquet"
I've never heard it called "Feather Notching and Button", but have heard it referred to as "Thunderbolt"
This is one Imperial reissued in the 1970s. If it is not marked IG, it is the original issue from circa 1912 to circa 1930.
the vase is almost 13 inches...where would I find the IG mark? I know nothing about the vase and have no books on the Imperial Glass, this is why I am asking for help in identifying it, dates, it's worth, etc. Thank you Pau7l 71. Linda
thanks for the added info Paul. One never know sometimes where some names come from. I understand that Imperial Glass often just assigned numbers and others gave their own names.
Linda, the mark would usually be in the very center on the bottom. However, Imperial Glass was not consistent in applying the mark on their newer glass. Tho' if it is unmarked and has crisp detail I'd probably go with an older date.
@Paul71...I was thinking back and remember our neighbor died in th 50's and that is when my mother was given the vase.
TallCakes....thanks for the info. I cannot find any initials in the center on the bottom. As I told Paul71, it was given to my mother in the 50's and since I cannot see any initials on the bottom I am assuming it is older.
Linda, most likely an older one, as Imperial reissued this as part of their "Collector's Crystal" line, not earlier than the 1970s. The newer made Imperial glass that I have seen has an almost grainy look to it.
TC, you are correct that Imperial mostly used numbers during this era, though some patterns were given names along with numbers.
