    Hello everyone!!
Another of my reptiles is this very lifelike bronze skink. The artist captured every little detail of this skink. The scales and toes are so finely detailed. I love the long tail and his alertness. It's solid bronze. In researching this skink, I've found that this would date back from the 1800's to very early 1900's. He's not marked, but many of the oldest bronze pieces, such as this, were not marked. He measures 6" long, 3" wide and stands 1" tall. So, quite large for a piece like this. Most you'll see are no more than 3" long.

A BIG thanks to our CW friend Deano for identifying this wonderful lizard for me.

Thanks for stopping in for a look at my bronze skink!!

    Scott

Greetings. This is an impressive "lizard." Having quite a bit of herpetology under my belt, I can say that this is a casting, a very well done one, of a type of Skink. Usually they are a smaller, but heavy bodied lizard that only go near water to drink. Very powerful lizard, with powerful jaws. When a Skink is around, it is the Alpha. Beautiful and completely correct, this is not a accurate depiction of a salamander but an excellent lizard.

      Scott,
Thanks very much!! It was very dirty when I got it. I cleaned the many years of dirt and grim off it and polished it afterwards.

Restrained/ appropriate cleaning— I have seen so many metal objects ruined with a metal cleaner (brass, ….)

Yes Scott, you're absolutely right. I take my time and slowly clean the objects so not to disturb the patina. This piece still has a great patina.
