Found this neat Little Red Riding Hood book, printed in 1949 by Samuel Lowe Company. 4048 on the back. If anyone could help me with this one I would appreciate it! I'm a book collector and can't seem to find it online anywhere... when I look for it by all its points.. the TV series book comes up, but this isn't the one! Anyone?? Check out the cool illustrations too ; )
I've checked my Collector's Guide to Children's Books, both volumes, and come up empty. I can't even find anything about Samuel Lowe Co.
But there is a lot of information on the internet about "Bonnie Books", it looks as though they were competing with Little Golden Books. Here's a different version of the book, my guess (since the artwork looks very similar) that it just has a different cover. http://www.amazon.com/Little-Riding-Hood-Bonnie-Book/dp/B000F00RN0
This one was published in 1956, so yours must be the earlier edition.
I just noticed that "Little Red Riding Hood" is separate words on this version, and yours is one word- Ridinghood.
Thank you for your input, I've been trying to find information on it to no avail. Possibly a rare printing is all I'm coming up with, I lost a reference I had found a couple weeks back discussing the printing, but it was very vague.
Whether it's rare or not, or valuable or not, it's adorable! I love the illustrations, they are so cute!
According to children's book dealer Doris Frohnsdorff's catalogue entry, "Illustrated with fine LITHOGRAPHED color illustrations by Primrose McPherson Paschal. Please see enlargements for details. According to an account of this book in "The Art & Life of Primrose Mcpherson Paschal", page 19, it is stated that Primrose chose her friends as models - "Little Red Riding Hood and her Grandmother were Mrs. John O'Donnell, Sr & her little blonde granddaughter. The Mother was Mrs. Eleanor Rhodes, and the woodcutter was Stewart Robertson". Primrose's illustrations for this title were later issued by Samuel Lowe as a "TV Bonnie Book".
