Hello everyone!!
As you may know, I have many cast iron dog doorstops. I have dogs made by Hubley, Albany Foundry, National Foundry, etc... However, this one is made by Dutka Liebl Co. Foundry in Boston. He is signed by the artist on his collar "Skoog" (pic #3) after Swedish-American sculptor Karl Frederick Skoog. Mr. Skoog (1878-1933) was best known for his memorials and monuments of prominent Bostonians. It's told that this doorstop was more than likely commissioned by an individual as a remembrance of their beloved pet. Though this one is cataloged as a Boston Terrier, I've always thought this doorstop looks more like a Boxer. I doubt that this is the original paint on this doorstop, but I think it has character and will not be changing anything about it. This one measures 7" tall and 7 1/2" long. Though small in stature, this fellow is not short on personality.
Thanks very much for stopping in for a look!!
