    IronLace
    (928 items)

After visiting a local op shop last week, I checked out the stuff on their free table outside, & picked up this neat vintage beer glass (plus some not so vintage coat hangers, which I needed & was also happy to get for nothing). I looked it up, & discovered it is a 1940s era beer glass, made by Crown Crystal Glass of Sydney. It measures 12.3 cm tall, 6.5 cm across the top, & 5.5 cm across the base. ULVA stands for United Licensed Victuallers Association.
I'm not a beer drinker or collector of "Breweriana" but this is such a cool glass, & I've found a couple of them listed on eBay AU for between $50 - $120! Not that I'm planning on selling it. It's in perfect condition.
Photo 3 shows another super freebie find from many years ago. I was at an inner city flea market late in the afternoon & the stallholders were starting to pack up. I found these two marbles in a box & asked how much..."Oh, you can have those" was the reply. I just knew they looked old & unusual. Later I learned they are handmade marbles from the 19th century & are quite valuable.
Photo 4 shows another flea market freebie, with a similar story to above, this Victorian tumbler was languishing in a box under a trestle table. "Oh, you can have that" was once more the reply to my inquiry. It does have a big crack but still displays nicely - I was won over by the cute, naive decoration of flying swallows. It's doing a great job holding pencils on my desk.
Anyone else got some good freebie finds?

      Many thanks, dav2no1!
Free stuff is awesome, I like the idea of giving something unwanted & unvalued a home where it will be enjoyed.
Those marbles look cool under UV!
