My Aunt aquired this Vase back in the 70's from a lady that had worked as a cleaning lady in a palace in Hungary or Bulgaria is what I was told, and she had always admired the vase and as a bonus it was given to her by her superior.....and in turn she had given it to my Aunt as payment for something she owed her money for. My Aunt was told that it was priceless museum quality.....there had been a note she had written all this about it in detail and unfortunately we have lost it. I have never seen anything like it in all my searching and would like to get more info on it and what it is worth....Can anyone help? It is sooooo beautiful! It takes my breathe away.

There are absolutely now markings on the vase that I can find....the last pic showing the bottom of it and the third pic shows looking down inside it from the top....the scalloped edge is like gole leafed....it is somewhat transparent....meaning you can see some light shine through it....not completely opaque. Oh, it is 16" tall.....

Your vase is cased glass, which means there is a layer of transparent color glass "fused" to a layer of white glass. It does appear to be European from the last quarter of the 19th century.

These vases invariably came in pairs, and were sometimes part of a larger garniture set that included a covered urn placed in the center. They often graced mantle pieces and sideboards.

Though very nice, I would not consider it "priceless museum quality" . I base that statement on the close up of the handpainted flowers. They are not the work of a master. To compare the enameling on this vase with museum quality enameling see:

      Hope this helps
