Here's a cool & unusual find that I picked up in a local shop. I'm not particularly into perfume atomizer bottles, but this one grabbed me for numerous reasons - the vibrant orange, the cameo style enamel painting, the satin finish, & an interesting signature. Add to that a modest price, & I had to get it!
The bottle is made from brilliant orange satin glass with enamel decoration of foliage that resembles cameo glass. It is signed A. Ducobu.
It measures around 19.5 cm tall & 6.5 cm across the base. The atomizer bulb is missing, but the brass fitting seems mostly intact.
I'd never seen anything like this, nor had ever heard of A. Ducobu.
So, after a little research I found that A. Ducobu was a glass engraver & artist, born Adelson Emile Ducobu in 1887. He produced a variety of enameled glass items including many perfume bottles. These were often blanks from Baccarat, adorned with intricate designs in Art Nouveau & Art Deco styles.
I guess this piece would most likely date from the 1920s. The orange & black colour scheme fits in perfectly with Bohemian Tango glass of the same era.
