As this figure is a D-Day figure that is the type that landed in the Higgens boats on D-Day it has a different type of kit than the usual infantry soldier. Instead of the usual backpack it has a vest with many pouches, probably just what was needed to land on the beach, no sleeping bags or tents. It was still quite a heavy load. These were part of the first wave that landed on Omaha Beach which was a bit of a disaster. Probably because the tanks that were supposed to support them were released too far out and sank. Two tanks did make it and it is believed that those two tanks and destroyers coming close to shore cleared the pillboxes.
The figure here just has the M1 Garand and a bayonet, the grenades must be in one of the pouches. The black case around the neck is the gas mask which was constantly being thrown away by the troops.
Wonderful find, I envy this great find !~
Thank you very much Phil!
