Hello everyone!
I purchased this set of bronze cassolettes recently because I really loved the fox and hound theme on these. As you can see one lid has a fox and the other has a hound. If you'll zoom in on pic #4, you'll see that there is also a relief of the hounds chasing a fox on one side of the cassolettes, and on the other side is a relief of the hounds chasing a rabbit into it's hole.
I'm told these are French and from the 19th century, but since this is not in my wheelhouse of expertise, I cannot say for sure how old these are or where they were made. In my research, all cassolettes I've seen are 19th century or older. Either way, I think they're quite beautiful. I did clean a bit of tarnish off these, but left a nice patina behind.
They each have beautiful heavy burgundy/white marble bases. What may appear to be a crack in the base, in pics #1 and #3, is actually just a natural occurring white vein in the marble. They each measure 9 1/2" tall, 9" wide and each weighs a bit over 4lbs.
Not sure what category to place these in.
