I purchased this pair of bell-shaped Coca Cola fountain glasses recently from a seller who claimed they were passed down a few generations in her family. I seem to be on a fountain glass kick, with the recent mirror/decal, now these. The glasses are in better condition than I expected. There are a couple air bubbles, and a flaw on the rim of one. But all in all, they are beautiful, no scratches or cracks. Light is distorted when looking through these glasses, but clear. Striations flow up the sides, and each have swirl pattern glass bottoms (I noticed this on my mirror decal, but did not know it was an actual glass pattern). The etched Coca-Cola logo sports "Trade Mark" in tail of long "C" on both.
Authentic?
Anyone with knowledge of these glasses, willing to enlighten a clueless wonderer, it will be appreciated.
Thanks. -- Dave
Yes hey are authentic. They are the first bell shaped glass after the modified flare glass. They date from the 30's until 1941 when the trademark came out of the tail and was placed under the logo.
Thanks Blaine! They look brand new...
... unlike the mirrored glass w/decal I picked up. I'm hoping you will comment on it as well. Mostly I'm curious about this: The decal was obviously put out by Coca-Cola, do you agree? Do you think during the 30's, Coca-Cola sold or gave out the decals by themselves for other outfits to apply to windows or whatever objects they wanted? The look of the decal on the glass, the quality and shape of the glass, just seems to me this was a fountain piece. I like this thing for the decal alone, no matter what, and the mirror is bonus as far as I'm concerned. My opinion right now is that the two were intended to be together. I'm interested in your thoughts.
Thanks again. -- Dave
